The paranoid fringe of the Left are in a tizzy because the headlines in their "alternative" press are saying that Obama is promising the Republicans cuts in Social Security. As usual, this is total bullshit. Obama has said changes to Social Security and Medicare are on the table. He has not said what those changes might be, nor has he said what he would demand from Republicans in order to get them. This has been the way of the squealing left wing pundits every time Obama has sat down with the Congress we stuck him with last November by not freaking voting for Liberals. Every time, he has come back with a better deal than anyone thought he could get. Too bad all the crybabies were beating down the most effective president the Left has had in 50 years for six months prior to November's elections. If instead they had been encouraging the electorate to give him a Congress that would empower him, we would be looking at a very different country right now. Instead, they suppressed the vote from the Liberal base and we got Obama vs the Teabag Nation of Rand Paul and Michele Bachmann. I fear Mother Jones and Alternet will do exactly the same thing for the next year and a half, and we will end up with a government entirely controlled by the Republican party and their masters the Koch Brothers.

If Obama would act more like a champion of the people he would find more than enough support. A lot of voters now call themselves independent because both parties are a disappointment. I'll be working in 2012 for the Democratic opponent of Mary Bono Mack, as with redistricting, she will be vulnerable. I will never vote for a Republican but at the same time I write, email, and call the White House and my Senators when they aren't representing me. If the Democrats want to win, they have to start showing the voters they are working for the working people and the current large number of people who are unemployed. Meanwhile I will not be "crying wolf" but I will let my displeasure of his current stand be known. Obama has done some things well, but for a person who promised transparency he hasn't done much to keep his supporters informed. I do hope we see somme changes by the time the convention rolls around, or we need to see someone challenge his nomination.

A large number of people that voted Republican are seeing their programs cut. I do believe that sanity will return.
If Republicans would vote a pay cut for themselves and a tax hike on the ultra-rich, they'd have more followers. Don't tell anyone that.
When they cut into programs for the elderly- they cut into voter support. Not just for the elderly, but for any family struggling with how to do right by an aging parent.
My Daddy used to say, if you give someone enough rope, they will hang themselves.
I am thinking this will happen soon.

here's hoping, Brenda. I'm still pissed at all the naive lefties who don't understand the real world and expect miracles. If Obama behaved the way they wished, he wouldn't have accomplished nearly as much as he has, and if they supported him and strengthened Congress for him, he could accomplish far more. They are a bunch of spoiled brats that want it to work like The West Wing. problem solved in 40 minutes with 20 minutes of commercials and bathroom breaks.

Being a good leftie is perhaps a spoiled brat wanna do good condition. We have so much. You travel. You see.
For things to change the righties need to see that the Tea party and so forth Republican policies are only going to hurt what they believe in. Like family, support for elderly or disabled children...so many things.
If publicly elected officials cut from themselves, they MIGHT win the next election.
Otherwise i see a lash back.

Good commentary. I think people should at least wait until details of Obama's suggestion emerge before getting concerned. Considering the Congress he has to work with, I am not sure what people expect.

Don't worry: the last eleven years have taught me the Left is perfectly willing to do the right thing to save face and win elections, as long as no one reminds it of its insanity, unlike the Right. Oh, wait.
