somehow, within 24 hours i've managed to meet two angry old white american men ranting about how the commie government is ruining the country. i guess they thought they would come down and make a killing in the real estate market. not sure what the real situation is, but they were sure unhappy.
i'm not sure what i think of this place. it's essentially devoid of culture, filled with picturesque colonial buildings and churches, and the beginnings of a tourist trade. it's filthy, as are most central american cities, but there seems to be some effort at cleaning up. all of central america needs a campaign similar to the one in the US during the 60's and 70's to clean up its act.
i'm going to isla omotepe tomorrow, via rivas. then to the highlands and el salvador. not enthusiastic today.
