I just figured out why I enjoy communicating online so much, whether it is by bulliten board, AIM, or here at LJ. One of my worst disabilities as a communicator is the tendency to interrupt people when I think I know what they are going to say, and to speak before considering carefully what I myself want to get across. On line, I have to read all the way through what the other person is saying, and, because of my slow typing, my brain has a chance to catch up with my mouth (fingers). Consequently I am a much better conversationalist in this medium. I still have a lot of work to do in the other.

I am not a good communicator, on line. I use so much inflection when I talk, so I can say less and the listener can still figure out what I'm referring to or which aspect of what he said that my comment applies to. Here, that doesn't work. Plus, I'm usually in a hurry which makes it even worse. And I seldom proofread my posts.

I sometimes get into trouble when my tone of voice conveys something very different from what i intend.
