question for all you soccer fans. how can you get so excited when your "national" team wins if many or most of the players aren't even citizens? or is soccer different from other sports, and players actually come from the country they play for?

A story about Mahatma Gandhi and a woman who asked him to tell her son to stop eating sugar. Gandhi told the woman and her son to return in a week. When they did so, Gandhi told her son to stop eating sugar. The woman asked: "Mahatma, why didn’t you tell him last week?" Gandhi replied: "Because I was still eating sugar last week."

Most of us don't realize that the advice we are giving another should also be directed at ourselves until after we've already given it, if then.

went to an opening tonight at the HazMat gallery downtown. some nice stuff there, notably some paintings by a guy named morris. i also ran into terry windling, artist and author. i was too discombobulated to even tell her my name, but i think she remembered me from the time A and J and i visited her studio. anyway, i managed to tell her a very heartfelt thankyou for her recent book, the wood wife. as i told her, it brought me back to what tucson meant to me before i was trapped in phoenix. i also learned that there will be another novel from her, the moon wife, next year.
