the space program is essential for one reason and should be focused on that one reason. space. there are too many humans on earth, and we aren't going to and shouldn't stop having babies. space is infinite. we should make use of it.

by the way, tomahawk missiles are made right here in tucson by raytheon. raytheon used to make home appliances such as washers and driers. they didn't do it very well, and by the start of WWII, they were almost bankrupt, so they decided to go into the arms making business. now they are one of americas most successful corporations.

me or i?

i was never much in to grammar, as anyone who has seen my creative use of commas has probably already noted, but i have always read a lot. i don't know most of the grammatical names for parts of a sentence, so this is in layman's language, i guess.

people frequently are confused as to whether they should use "me" or "i" when combined in a sentence with another name or pronoun.

the easiest way to figure out if you are doing it right is to drop the name or pronoun out of the sentence.

at the concert last night i saw julia roberts a couple of rows over from john and i.

wrong

because...

at the concert last night i saw julia roberts a couple of rows over from i.

-------------------------------------

john and me were sitting only a couple of rows from julia roberts

wrong

because...

me was sitting only a couple of rows from julia roberts

this was not precipitated by anyone's post. i just notice it every now and then and happened to be thinking about it.

"on the campaign trail in 2000, george w. bush yelled at me. he said, "get a real job!" responding to those who criticized his month-long vacation in 2001, he said, "they don't understand the real definition of work." let me be frank, george: you aren't the president, you didn't win, and you don't do anything. you've never had a real job, everything you've done has failed, and you've always had people behind you doing the grunt work for you. happy president's day. enjoy it. you'll only have one more."
