Written in 1996 by David Darling and performed by Boxing Ghandis:

Promised Land

fire trucks keep rolling by, all of my doors are locked
smoke all up around my block
go turn on the radio, see what's the war today
I was there when the promise turned into an albatross
the day that our peace flew away
put down our reason and walked off the other way
and here we are
one step closer to the promised land
and I think we'll see the changes soon, yeah
one step closer to the promised land
and I hope the promise works for you, don't you
fire hose to billy clubs things haven't changed that much
just takes the human touch
go turn on the radio, see who gets pushed today, yeah
what about those marches and the speeches that they made
I guess the old ideas changed up some
from a song of fairness to a promise of war to come
and here we are
one step closer to the promised land
and I think we'll see the changes soon, yeah
one step closer to the promised land
and I hope the promise works for you, don't you

*note: I knew a guy named David Darling back in the mid 80's in Tucson who had a band. I wonder if this is him?
