meteoric rise

the Leonid shower is tonight, i guess, but this morning at about 6 AM, i went out to my truck and saw the biggest meteor i have ever witnessed. i am in the city, mind you, and it is just before dawn. most stars aren't even visible. this huge fireball streaked across the sky from south to north right in front of me. this thing was really close to being big enough to survive all the way to earth. it came so low that it left a brief smoke trail that remained visible after it had burnt up. i have never seen one so low.
