the english language somtimes seems inadequate. remember how hard it was to define joy? or to express what it means when you say "i love you"? literal definitions just don't work sometimes. to talk about something such as love or joy, right or wrong, beauty or faith, you must have a mastery of allegory and metaphor. with those tools, you can give someone a taste of the feeling you want to share.
