yes, meteorologically speaking, southern Arizona does experience a monsoon each summer. the intense summer heat creates an area of low pressure which draws moisture from the ocean. there is a seasonal wind shift of at least 110º, and the season accounts for at least 50% of the area's annual precipitation.
