i

me or i?

i was never much in to grammar, as anyone who has seen my creative use of commas has probably already noted, but i have always read a lot. i don't know most of the grammatical names for parts of a sentence, so this is in layman's language, i guess.

people frequently are confused as to whether they should use "me" or "i" when combined in a sentence with another name or pronoun.

the easiest way to figure out if you are doing it right is to drop the name or pronoun out of the sentence.

at the concert last night i saw julia roberts a couple of rows over from john and i.

at the concert last night i saw julia roberts a couple of rows over from i.

-------------------------------------

john and me were sitting only a couple of rows from julia roberts

wrong

because...

me was sitting only a couple of rows from julia roberts

this was not precipitated by anyone's post. i just notice it every now and then and happened to be thinking about it.
