calling all techies

i hooked my computer up to my stereo, but i am having trouble with the sound. i can only use the source direct on the stereo, so i have no control over equalization at that end. windows media has no such control that i can find, so i'm using winamp, but i am still getting way too much bass even with it turned all the way down. i am plugged directly into the output for the desktop speakers. do i need to get a special card to use my stereo, or is there another option i am overlooking?

never mind
my soundblaster card doesn't support separate bass and treble adjustments.
