no definition of the surname. dao wen is basically "the writer's way" or "the Tao of literature" when i was in saigon, i went to google, typed in chinese name translation and took the first link.

it rarely comes up with the same name twice, and never has a definition for the surname.

I did notice that the names seem to cycle somewhere between 3 and 5 characters for each of the three aspects, which will give you a large selection.

And, yes, I'm familiar with this site and love it. I was given my Mandarin name when studying the language at Madison, then when we went to Hong Kong and China, C had that name engraved into a chop. Surname: Ni, Given name: sounds kind of like my English name, means "like an orchid."
